ABOUT SPEAKER'S REUNION DAY

Dating back to 1876, formerly known as Speaker's Day, this time-honored tradition of celebrating former members of the Texas House of Representatives is a biennial gathering each legislative session. This year, on Friday, March 28, 2025, former House members are invited to return to the Texas Capitol and be recognized for their service to the State of Texas.

Speaker's Reunion Day will be hosted on Friday, March 28, 2025. Former House Members will participate in a breakfast and registration, be recognized in the House Chamber, and enjoy lunch on the Capitol grounds.

How do Former Members RSVP?

We kindly ask that former members submit their RSVP here on our website under the 'Member RSVP' tab by Monday, March 24, 2025. Additionally, if former members are planning to bring a guest please submit their name in your RSVP form. 

What's the agenda for speaker's reunion day?

This year’s celebration begins with a breakfast reception and check-in at 8:00 AM in the Agricultural Museum (1W.14), located on the first floor of the Texas Capitol. Former Members’ recognition in the House Chamber will follow at 10:00 AM, or upon conclusion of the House's daily order of business, and the festivities will conclude with a catered BBQ lunch on the Capitol Grounds. Please note: all former members wishing to be recognized on the Floor for Speaker's Reunion Day should be in the Agricultural Museum no later than 9:30 AM.

where do I park?

Parking is available in the Capitol Visitors Center Garage located at 1201 San Jacinto Boulevard, between Trinity and San Jacinto at 12th and 13th Streets.

What is the attire?

When on the House Floor, men are asked to wear a coat and tie and women are asked to dress in business formal to maintain proper decorum.

What does a former member's registered guest do?

 Registered guests are welcome to sit in the House gallery while former members are being recognized on the House Floor. Afterward, they are invited to attend the BBQ lunch on the Capitol lawn.

*Please note: when former members check-in at the breakfast, they will receive their registered guest's BBQ lunch ticket which they will need to transfer to their guest to enter the lunch.

Are there any Hotel accommodations?

There is no hotel block for Speaker's Reunion Day however you can find a list of hotels around the Texas Capitol and downtown Austin here.

What is the process for Sponsor BBQ tickets?

After submitting the 2025 Sponsor Form via email to Sydney Watts and Murphy McDougald, you will receive an email with BBQ ticket pick-up instructions the week of March 24, 2025.
